At the Frankfurt Motor Show, Saab and Sony teamed up to do some inter-active work between cell phone users and the Saab 9X BioHybrid and Saab 9X Air concept vehicles.  This is just a taste of some of the technology these car and electronic giants are partnering up to develop.  Since a close friend recently became an owner of a Chicago Saab 9-7X, I was intrigued to find out more information!

The goal of these two companies is to create a system where a Saab owner could manage some of their car’s “bells and whistles” via their cell phone.  Some of the car features that the cell could activate a distance away from the car would be the car’s head lights,  interior lighting, front and rear seat settings, or trunk.

Since most cars already come with a key pad that allows you to do a few of these things, what is so unique about this?  First of all, there would be more range for cell phones, versus the range that a key pad works.  A driver could also use his cell phone to allow for navigation:  e.g.  use it in a situation where they forgot where they parked- very useful when leaving a crowded parking lot at 1 a.m!!   I know my current Chicago Saab used car doesn’t have this feature and I would be a big fan of being able to do this with my Sony phone.

Moreover, Saab and Sony’s new technology allows more hands-free cell phone usage.  A Saab 9-7X driver is able to keep in touch with friends and family while behind the wheel.   The tech-savvy Saab driver can also access their phonebook, and drive and make calls….They are supposedly able to do this while keeping a safe eye on the roadway…hmmm??

These two companies are definitely making it interesting!  Head out to your Saab of Chicago dealer today to find out more information.
