Spyker gives Saab a new and improved look

Spyker gives Saab a new and improved look

As you may or may not know, Spyker, a Dutch car company, recently purchased Saab from GM.  The auto brand has been in trouble for awhile now, but with the recent purchase and plans by Spyker, it’s looking like Saab has some great new models coming up.

The 9-5 Sedan, which was developed by GM originally, is still part of the plan.  The 9-5 went on display last year at the Frankfurt Auto Show.   This would have been a great Chicago 2010 Saab model, but it will go on sale this summer as a 2011 model.  The 9-5 will be available as a sedan, wagon, and “X” body style.

Another model (this might be my favorite) for Saab that will come to dealerships in 2011 is the 9-4X Crossover.  It will actually be manufactured by General Motors at their plants in Mexico.  GM will be able to pull profit from it’s sales, but can also charge a markup that can go to Saab Spyker Automobiles.

The 9-3 line will also be a great option for the Saab lover.  Spyker really wants to make this lineup great.  They are planning for all newly designed 9-3’s to be available as a 2012 model.  You’ll be able to choose from a sedan, wagon, “X,” convertible, and a hatchback, which perhaps one of the most coveted style by a loyal Saab enthusiast!  The Chicago 2010 Saab 9-3X starts out around $37K.

The 9-1 small car concept is more of a vision at this time.  Smaller cars that are more economical and give off less emissions are a wave of the car industry’s future.  To make a 9-1 model go from thought to process will require some more funding for Spyker.

Lastly, the Saab Aero X, which went on display several years ago as a conept, is probably not going to happen for awhile.  It looks amazing, with it’s futuristic, sporty looking design.   If you are craving a Saab now, consider a Chicago Saab used cars instead.

Spyker is going to work extremely hard to make sure Saab is reestablished as a leading car brand.  Right now, you can visit your local dealer for more information on new and Chicago Saab used cars.

2011 9-5 stands out of lineup with chic, classy design

new saab 9-5The Chicago 9-5 2011 model has a beautiful, eye-catching design that Saab lovers hope makes it to dealerships.  As you may or may not know, GM is trying to sell Saab.  Their deal to sell to Koenigsegg did not materialize, sending Saab’s future into the great unknown.  Their hope is that this new model will regenerate the brand and keep it going!

Take a look at this classy car,  and you can definitely tell it’s a Saab, but there are some design changes.  The pillars and roof are more angled, compared to the Chicago 9-5 Griffin.  It also has some of the “jet fighter design” that was a staple on the Aero-X car a couple years back. Saab Plans To Make Smaller Eco-Friendly Cars

saab rainSaab is working on more environmentally friendly vehicles.  The company plans to manufacture both hybrid and electric models that won’t be in dealerships until late 2011, at the earliest.  These new models are going to be hatchbacks, 9-1 or 9-2’s.   Also, the company plans to replace the 9-5 saloon and estate, produce a new 9-3, and a 9-4X compact SUV.   Saab will definitely be busy over the next year and a half! Saab 9-5 Hybrid on the way?

Saab 9-5 Hybrid on the way?

I’ve previously posted about the great new design of the Saab 9-5 and how I can’t wait to see it at a Saab Chicago dealer and take a test drive. Now there is news that the 9-5 could get a hybrid version in its next model year. The hybrid planned would have a small electric motor with a 120-hp, 1.4-liter gas engine. As with newer hybrids, the electric motor would factor into initial acceleration and during hard acceleration at higher speeds. That would mean the electric motor would be used for mainly short periods of time, making the battery pack required smaller and less expensive.

I know that I loved my Chicago Saab 9-5 test drive when I took one last year, and the new styling has me anxiously waiting for my next one later this year. I think a hybrid would be a great addition to the Saab lineup. Maybe next year I can take a Chicago Saab 9-5 Hybrid test drive.

2011 Saab 9-5 Design Change Brings Intrigue

2011 Saab 9-5 Design Change Brings Intrigue

I recently found a classy woman for myself. That took about 40 years.  Now I am hoping to find the accompanying classy car, but I have about 14 months to do so, as my lease is set to run out then.  I’ll admit it. I’m picky.  Though it has yet to be released I am very excited about everything that I am reading and seeing about the 2011 Saab 9-5.

Lets discuss the much-heralded new features the 2011 9-5 will offer.  The primary change Saab enthusiasts will notice is the exterior design of the new 9-5.  For eight consecutive years Saab has used the same sedan “3 box” look.  While the current design is timeless in my opinion, I would be lying if I didn’t admit the new design intrigues me.  After all, I always felt as though if any automobile’s design should have a jet look and feel it naturally would be the Saab. Saab’s big buzzword on the 2011 9-5 seems to be “modern”.  They have rounded the front end which should make the car look sleeker and sportier. The photos look great.  Lets hope the change has the desired affect in person; in the meantime I will wait patiently, drink a ton of coke zero and reserve judgment. I’ll find out when I finally take my Saab 9-5 Chicago test drive of the 2011 model. Continue Reading…
